There is a big debate whether you should spend a bit extra and get the Beauty Blender (BB) or buy the cheaper alternative RT sponge that achieves the same results?
I decided to go for the cheaper option. I like this sponge as the results are a beautiful airbrushed finish. The shape of the sponge allows you to be able to get into all the difficult places. I like the fact it’s got a soft, sponge-like feel to it.
However, there are a few points that I need to share that spoil the greatness of this sponge. The fact it’s so soft means it’s a lot more fragile. Vigorous washing won’t work with this sponge as mine slightly tore but the softly, softly approach won’t get the stains out. I wash my sponges after every use and I have noticed the sponge has, just slightly, started to lose its shape.
You won’t be able to pop your foundation directly onto the sponge as it will absorb a lot of the product. Although this can be resolved by applying your foundation to your face before you use the sponge to blend it all in.
Don’t get me wrong, the results of this sponge are brilliant. I can’t fault it in that department. My only concern is that it’s not going to last very long.
Saying that, sponges won’t last forever – you will need to replace them. They recommend you should replace them every other month. That’s in an ideal world. Realistically, every few months or a bit longer if you don’t use it often. Sponges breed germs and these germs cause breakouts. It’s not worthwhile keeping them any longer than 6 months.
